Due to the present situation of Coronavirus (CODIV-19)-related alert and considering the prevention measures that, in the last few days, are being implemented by national and local authorities, the 18th International Conference on Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy, organized by Parent Project aps, and scheduled from the 28th of February to the 1st of March at the Ergife Palace Hotel of Rome, has been canceled.
This decision was taken considering, in the first place, the need to protect the health of all participants, starting from young patients with DMD/BMD – already vulnerable to respiratory and cardiac problems – and their close family members. About 650 participants, from 30 countries around the world and from all Italian regions, including those with towns currently in quarantine and already diagnosed patients, were expected to attend the event.
The urgent need to act with a view to collective responsibility, preventing infections as much as possible, and considering the security measures which will probably impose a further increase in restrictions and controls on domestic and international flights, force the association, with extreme regret, to cancel this extremely important appointment for the entire Duchenne and Becker community in Italy and in the world.
